Vietnam is a country with a coastline stretching over 3260 km, so it has many possibilities for exploiting and developing seaports. Stretching from the South to the North, the largest seaports all have distinct advantages.
According to Decision No. 2190/QD-TTg dated December 24, 2009, as amended by Decision No. 1037/QD-TTg dated June 24, 2014 of the Prime Minister, all seaports of Vietnam will be adjusted. development planning to 2020, orientation to 2030. Vietnam's seaport system is divided into 6 groups of ports.
Connecting international shipping routes with Vietnam.
Currently, Vietnam has 32 shipping routes, including 25 international routes and 7 domestic routes.
Based on the scale and function, Vietnam's seaport system is divided into the following types of ports:
- The national general port is the main port in Vietnam's port system, including:
+ Hai Phong international gateway port, Ba Ria Vung Tau port, Van Phong transshipment port, Khanh Hoa province (class IA);
+ Major regional ports (class I) include: Quang Ninh, Nghi Son (Thanh Hoa), Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Dung Quat (Quang Ngai), Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) , TP. Minh City. . Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, Can Tho.
- Local hub ports (Type II) have an attractive scope, serving mainly within the local area (province, city);
- Specialized ports (class III) directly serving concentrated industrial establishments, typical goods transported through the port (crude oil, oil products, coal, ore, cement, clinker, passengers... ). .) and is a category of the overall industrial base. In particular, the transshipment port is mainly imported coal for thermal power plants, becoming the place to receive and transport each part of the plant.
